How has your identity as an artist shaped your work in Chicago?
Peter: I have always felt that theatre is the most effective way to examine the mercurial quality of identity. As a multi‐racial man who grew up in a predominantly white, Midwestern town I have always been curious about identity. I have been drawn to theatre because it is a medium that encourages audiences to develop empathy for stories that are radically different from their own. It is through this empathy that audiences begin to ask questions about their own identity.
