I am an American.
The Chicago Theatre Marathon is a weekend-long new work incubator celebrating the diversity of the Chicagoland theatre community. The Marathon aims to acknowledge the variety of characteristics and categories of identity that make individuals unique, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or gender expression, socio-economic status, age, physical, mental and learning abilities, religious beliefs and political views. Additionally, like many in the Chicago theatre community, we were deeply saddened to hear about the sudden closing of American Theater Company. In the spirit of continuing the dialogue and art-making that ATC sparked in recent years, the theme for the Chicago Theatre Marathon 2018 will be I AM AN AMERICAN. This year, we seek pieces that challenge and inspire the Chicago community by asking the question, "What does it mean to be an American?" This curated series will provide a platform to recognize the uniqueness of individuals, populations, groups and their experiences while cultivating a sense of commonality and shared goals for our community.
Submissions are now closed for 2018.
